Role Playing Game
Welcome one and all to the ASB RPG for the PokéMasters Board. For those of you who don't know what it all stands for, here is a bit of a backstory.
The Anime Style Battle (ASB) is a sub-forum of The PokéMasters Message Board in which members of the forum may collect, battle, and compete against each other in the tradition of what helped us get into Pokémon: the battles.
However, for some of us, we wanted to do a bit more. So, with some asking we started our little group here where those of us from the TMP boards can come here and Role Play as our ASB persona in a more interactive and less battle heavy atmosphere. Does this mean we've left TPM? No, it just means we are more of a Sister-board, or fan-board given rise from our love of ASB and our over-active imaginations.
So without further ado, allow me to explain in a bit more detail what this Pokémon World is like.
For those of you familiar with the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga drawn by Toshihiro Ono, the world is very similar to that. Technology is at a very high level and everything seems to have a more futuristic look to it. I have included some images as I explain some of the more familiar aspects of the world for the RPG.
PokéDex
The PokéDex is the greatest asset to a trainer. It holds the information of their Pokémon, including their current status, their health, their known attacks, opposing Pokémon levels, as well as a smaller device for getting more accurate readings. It also holds the trainer's personal information, a list of Pokémon caught or seen, and can act as a communication device (e-mails, some expensive models allow for video calls). The PokéDex is a flat rectangular device that is built to be durable. They can be dropped, soaked, shocked, burnt, heated to intense temperatures and still function. They are also the registration for the various Pokémon Leagues that exist throughout the world, with each region having a slightly different design (the one featured is the Kanto Indigo League standard version), but most of them are conservative in their appearance.
The PokéDex is activated by a thumb-sized button. Upon activation a holographic screen appears which then allows the user to navigate the options for what information they are inquiring about and the features the 'Dex has. This allows for quick access and navigation.
Everyone who trains or raises Pokémon has a PokéDex. From Gym Leaders, to breeders, it is one of the most handy items one could have.
Poké Balls and belts[/u]
Poké Balls are the common capture device used to contain Pokémon and come in varying types and strengths. When a Pokémon is caught, the ball splits into two halves and stores the Pokémon as digital information which can then be released and reformed when thrown. When the Pokémon is released from the Ball, the Poké Ball disappears in a flash of light and the Pokémon forms from that energy. When a Pokémon faints or is recalled, it turns into energy and reforms into the ball before bouncing back to the trainer.
Each Poké Ball unique to a trainer has a corresponding number on the button that recognizes the Pokémon caught in relation to the first one ever caught or given. Each Pokémon will also have an identification number as a small circular mark with a number in the center, designating which Pokémon they are. This is an easy system for the trainer to recognize quickly which Poké Ball contains which Pokémon in their storage.
Poké Balls can also be stored electronically, and the Pokémon within transformed into electronic data. The information is carefully guarded and protected, allowing for only the trainer of those Pokémon to access and withdraw them.
The belts in which Poké Balls are held have a quick-catch release mechanism in which the balls are held secure. A quick pull and the Poké Ball is ready for action.
The World
The ASB RPG Pokémon World is similar in these aspects. Technology is sophisticated past our current levels (of course if you can digitize animals and hold them in spheres, then you have to have been pretty advanced). Styles and cultures differ as well as what Pokémon mean to the inhabitants of the region. For many they are companions, for others they are combatants, and others see them as tools to be used, bought, and sold.
Topography varies depending on the region, and the region in which this RPG takes place in, will be described in better detail when the region is more fleshed out.
We all hope you enjoy your stay in the ASB RPG, and have a blast.
